The Mohs hardness scale is a useful tool to help identify a crystal when you're not sure what it is. All crystals are classified on a scale from 1 - 10 depending on their hardness. Talc is the softest stone with diamond being the hardest. The chart shows to how gauge the hardness of a stone by using common objects.
